That’s what you’ve read everywhere online, right?

In this second edition of the Spacebar Collective newsletter, we’ll be going over how to use Ahrefs to find profitable (micro) niches for your affiliate sites.

We’re going to start off by heading to the Referring Domains report.

The millions of backlinks here aren’t going to be useful as is.

So let’s apply some filters to narrow down the search:

• dofollow links only

• DR up to 10

Next we enter a niche category into the Word or phrase field.

For this example, we’re going to tackle “kayak” affiliate sites. These all have weak backlink profiles that we can compete with.

Sort the websites by highest traffic to find the best opportunities in the niche.

You can do your keyword research by simply looking at keywords each of these sites rank for.

Keep in mind that you can beat them out with a stronger backlink building campaign and it won’t take much resources either.

Generally speaking, you’re best off checking out the top 5 websites from this view. In this example, we’re going to look at kayakingnear.me.

Click the dropdown and head to Top Pages to see top keywords at a glance.

Looks like they rank for a bunch of [state] kayaking keywords and… “kayak brands”

Bingo!

There’s your new affiliate site’s top keyword to tackle.

✨ High Commercial Intent

✨ Low # of Backlinks to Rank

Repeat the process for the rest of the top 5 websites from that filtered view I showed you
